A number of medical and psychological journals have begun to publish all or part of their content online. Some merely list the table of contents.

Some journals list abstracts (an abstract is a brief summary of the article)

An increasing number of journals have begun to publish full text articles and links to the authors' email addresses. Case Conference material may not be available online. The American Medical Association(AMA) publishes a number of AMA specialty journals online along with both simple and a more advanced search features. The AMA also publishes links to other medical journals which have at least part of their information online.    PubMed List of full text journals available online. They say that some charge a fee or are otherwise restricted. I have not checked these individual journals.  The e-journal page lists a variety of types of journals which have part or all of their information online. In some cases, this is as little as a table of contents. In some cases, full text.

The American Psychological Association has created an online version of Psych Abstracts, PsycInfo. Psych Abstracts is a index of abstracts from behavioral and psychological journals. Researchers and clinicians have used Psych Abstracts for years to help find articles on particluar subjects. Unfortunately, the American Psychological Association does not allow free access to the abstracts to the general public. One can access them by paying a modest. Individuals affiliated with health sciences library can sometimes access them without charge.

Some professional associations have started to sell searchable collections of specialty journals on CD-ROM. Back issues are generally included. These are expensive, but they can make it easy for the professional to do rapid, focused searches of a large body of literature.

Harrison's Online is coming out later this year. It will include the text of the 14th edition of Harrison's Principles of Internal Medicine in a searchable database along with in-text links to related web sites and to related Medline abstracts. The annual subscription price will be $89.00.  I have not had the opportunity to try this out.
